Since John admitted his crush on Ricki Lake I feel it’s necessary for me to do the same. Okay, I don’t have a crush on her — I’m a girl and I’m straight — but I have been a fan of Ricki for a long time. There’s one TV movie she did in particular that I absolutely adore. It’s called Babycakes. It stars Ricki and Craig Sheffer and it’s from the 80s. It’s a about a fat chick who has a major crush on a total hottie who has a girlfriend but she tries to seduce him anyway. Growing up as a fat teen (and then losing the weight later in my early twenties) I could totally relate to her character in the movie. I’m not afraid to admit that I dig the movie even though it has some seriously cheesy moments — it was the 80s after all — but it has a great message to love yourself no matter what anyone else thinks.
Anywhoo, Babycakes still gets shown from time to time on channels like Lifetime or WE (Women’s Entertainment), and it’s available on DVD.

Babycakes, huh. There’s nothing like classic 80′s cinema. I haven’t seen it, but it sounds like a good “lounging on the couch on a Sunday” movie. I watch Lifetime and WE but I guess I’ve missed that movie. I’ll keep an eye out for it though. Thanks.
I enjoyed Ricki’s performances in the few movies I have seen her in and her talk show had some pretty good topics at times.
I’m new to John Mayer’s music, so don’t know much about John Mayer at all. I’ve just started to listen to some of his music recently. However, I’m glad he has no qualms admitting any kind of crush to the public. Kudos to John for that.
