mayer does bridge school benefit

10.29.07 | Comment?

I went to the 21st Annual Bridge School Benefit on Sunday. John Mayer performed as did Neil Young, Jerry Lee Lewis, Metallica, My Morning Jacket, Tegan & Sara, Tom Waits and Regina Spektor.

I, of course, was there just for Mayer. Okay, that’s not entirely true, I was excited to see Tegan & Sara too. I left right after Mayer’s set so I have no idea how the rest of the show went down. I sort of regret missing out on Metallica but I was too tired to stay and I’m sure I’ll get over it quickly.

Of what I did see I was satisfied. Regina Spektor has an amazing voice. It’s so versatile, and I kept thinking of the same word over and over while I watched her play. She’s a sprite. Not the drink but ya know like one of those little fairies. She was so humble and honored to be there. She did a great cover of the John Lennon song “Real Love.”

After Regina was Tegan & Sara who did a great set of all my favorite songs. Those girls just rock and I hope that more people will catch on to them.

Ok, so the real reason I was there. Mayer performed an acoustic set of 6 songs:

Message In A Bottle (on Saturday he performed “Free Fallin’)
Belief
Waiting For The World To Change
Gravity
Heart Of Life
Stop This Train

It was a good set but it left me wanting more, and by more I mean “Slow Dancing In A Burning Room.” Oh well, until next time I guess.
